Christmas is a time where we give out gifts to show our love and appreciation to our families and friends. Perhaps the kindest people may go out of their way to distribute food to the homeless and visit the sick in hospitals as done by most football clubs, and charities including church organisations.
Similarly God loves giving out gifts. He has provided for us the Gift of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ. The Gift of Eternal Life is the greatest gift that can be given to anyone. It represents victory over our greatest enemy-death, which we still haven’t managed to find a cure for. It is recorded in the Bible that,
Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Having Eternal Life means we get to live with God forever and ever, yes even beyond death. We take on the nature of God, which is the nature of life. Eternal life is our passport, visa and ticket to Heaven. Every person NEEDS TO RECEIVE Eternal Life through Jesus Christ in order to make it to Heaven. Those without Eternal Life are spiritually dead, that is, eternal separation from God in Hell. Only the living (people who have received eternal life) will make it to Heaven. Life will be very different from what we see today. The Bible states that:
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4)
The only problem is that an imperfect man cannot have eternal life (live with God happily forever) because of sin and its consequence-death. I’m sure you’ll agree that even the kindest people in our lives have their shortcomings. The Bible puts it this way:
Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins. (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
God had to make provision to bridge the gap for us. It is fair to say that dying for a good person is difficult let alone someone who is undeserving. But that is exactly what God did. He loves us so much that in our sinful state, before we decide to accept Him, He sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins.
Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God’s love for us. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus came to the world as a man to pay the penalty for all our wrongdoings in order that we can become holy and acceptable to God. He died in our place and came back to life on the third day and has ascended to Heaven to prepare mansions for us. All you need to do is to do is accept Jesus and believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Him and confess Him as your Lord and Saviour to have the Gift of Eternal life. Now that is GOOD NEWS!
Today some friends want us to change our character to suit them. However, God loves us for who we are. He doesn’t force you to change before He accepts us. Once we choose Him, He works in us, on us and with us to change our ways and turn our lives around.
Receive Jesus into your heart and receive God’s Gift of eternal life. Declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
