The Pursuit Of Hope

I believe that love is the most powerful force in the world but hope is the most sought after. This may explain why motivational speakers, pastors and musicians are some of the most celebrated and in demand persons today.

All over the world, everyone is looking for hope. Phrases such as, ‘‘Everything will be okay”; “You’ll be fine”; “Things will eventually work out”; “Keep on believing” have become treasured words. The search for Hope attracts millions or possibly billions of people to Churches, Mosques, Synagogues and other places of worship every week. Hope sees the positives in negative situations, the light in darkness and an opportunity in every difficulty.

Many people, however, search for hope in the wrong places. This has led to frustration, desperation and confusion in their lives. Some have placed their hope in their spouses, siblings and friends only to be let down. Some situations may be beyond their capabilities to offer assistance.

There is a man who does not ever lack resources and he is at all times able and willing to help us if we come to him for help. His name is Jesus Christ.

Why Should we place all our hope in Jesus?

Below are four reasons why we should put our hope in Jesus.

1) Jesus understands us– Jesus can empathize with us and He is able to help us to deal with our weaknesses. He lived on earth for thirty-three and a half years without sin as a man and therefore understands the frailties of human beings. He will not look down on us like some people do.

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it. (Hebrews 4:15-16)

The fact that Jesus understands our weaknesses is not an excuse for us to remain in our current state. He also expects us to grow and gives us the power to overcome our weaknesses.

2) Jesus is a reliable helper– Jesus is always willing and ready to help us in every situation in which we find ourselves. He says that,

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Jesus knows all about our trouble and He will guide us until the end of our time on earth if we allow Him to. There is no friend who is as reliable as Jesus. His Spirit still lives on earth today in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the best friend any person can wish for.

3) Jesus is the ultimate provider- Jesus knows all about our needs. He cares for us deeply and wants us to turn all our worries over to Him. All He requires is for us to focus on building a strong relationship with Him. If we walk in obedience to His word, we shall receive everything that we need to live a godly life and share in His wonderful goodness.

Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them. (Matthew 7:7-8)

Jesus is able to give us much more than we ask or think.

4) Jesus wants the best for you- Jesus cares about you so much that He wants only the best for you. God’s plan is to bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering (Jeremiah 29:11). However, this plan can only come to pass when you put ALL your hope in Jesus Christ. Jesus protects us and ensures that God’s great plans for our lives are fulfilled. This guarantees divine protection from evil in order for His plans to be carried out in your life. You will see the goodness of the LORD in this world of the living! (Psalm 27:13).

Make Jesus your Lord and Saviour and accept Him into your heart. You’ll begin to enjoy a new lease of life that is only available in Him. Regardless of how bumpy the ride gets, you can be confident that things will eventually turn out for your good. Make a conscious decision today to put all your hope in Jesus.
