My Best Friend

We all love friends with great personalities and one of the key character traits of a great friend is someone who is able to help us and be there for us when we are upset about something or feeling down. Everybody loves and appreciates that supportive friend.

As great as these friends are, however, they have limitations and may not always be available when we need them. They may be at work, on holiday or just generally inaccessible at the time when we need them the most. Even worse, we may have fallen out with this friend and for that reason they won’t be there for us.

However, I want to introduce you to a friend who is always there for me. He is closer than a brother. This person helps me to deal with the most difficult situations or mess I get myself into. He is my best friend, the best helper and he never neglects me. He is not restricted by time or space or geographical location. He is the Spirit of God and his name is the Holy Spirit. He has many other great attributes. Some are listed below.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever. (John 14:16)

He is the most complete friend anyone can ever want. What makes him so complete is the fact that he is a friend for all conditions and times and seasons. He gives me strength when I am weak, he tells me what to say when I am lost for words and he always gives me sound advice. The Bible describes him as the Spirit of Truth because He guides me and shows me the truth in every situation. He doesn’t say things to tickle my ears like some friends do.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him–the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord. (Isaiah 11:2)

Not only is my best friend a great comforter, he also gives me supernatural wisdom to find the solution to every situation and helps me to make the right decisions. He tells me about God’s plan for my life and provides me with the power to carry on without giving up on life, which is much needed in today’s challenging world.

The good news is that He wants to be your best friend too. He wants to come and live in you and with you. Right now! Yes, now! Accept Jesus Christ and invite the Holy Spirit to come into your life and be your best friend. He is willing and eager to be your best friend now. It is a life changing and a life long relationship.
